After a short, unscheduled hiatus, we are back. During the downtime, I got to thinking about the amazing response to this series so far and what to do next.
One random thought was that it needs more video. And when I think of video, I think of Ryan Shelley.
Adorable dog, amazing work…not to mention great hair, there’s a lot that inspires me about Ryan Shelley.
(Art Director, Myriad Media)
This trio is Raleigh’s video powerhouse.
Ryan, accompanied by his wife Colleen and their ever cute Boston Terrier, Frito, put out a wealth of creative video work both professionally and simply for fun.
As an Art Director at Myriad Media, Ryan is part of the team that creates videos for IBM, Nationwide, the YMCA, Red Hat, Artcraft, Peter Millar, Defiant Whiskey and some Raleigh favorites like Slingshot Coffee Co., New Reveille and King Mez.
Colleen is an accomplished graphic designer at Red Hat and recently gave us the logos for P.G. Werth’s and Willam & Co.
Frito is just a ham and has a ton of personality.
But when you combine Ryan’s video expertise, Colleen’s graphic design and Frito’s charisma, they somehow manage to make the everyday episodes in their lives so much more exciting and fun to watch.
Their fun work never ceases to make me smile.
You know they are often just playing around, but even then the three of them manage to capture moments in a way that is more engaging than any video content I’ve ever produced. (Side note: I can only imagine the amount of unused footage is laying around their house.)
What I find so inspirational however is how much fun they seem to have doing it. It’s often very easy to take a creative beating at the office and lick your wounds at home before coming back and doing it all again. It can be incredibly hard to refill the tank and create in your free time, especially when you’re asked to do it all day.
But when you truly love doing something, I guess it’s easier.
And when you can make it a family affair, it must get really fun.
So instead of rambling on and on in this post, I’ll leave you with the fact that not everyone finds what they are meant to do during their time on this Earth. Far fewer, excel at it and continue to have fun doing it both personally and professionally. Ryan Shelley is one of those people.
Whether it’s creating promotional videos for Creative Mornings Raleigh, one of Myriad’s clients or simply finding an excuse to throw vegetables at your wife and record it in slow motion, it inspires me that Ryan’s passion and free-spirit still manage to permeate all of his work, no matter the subject or client.
He has a seemingly endless amount of creativity and he genuinely loves what he does. That’s why I’m a fan and why I find Ryan inspirational.
Someday I will manage to con my way into a video project with Ryan, so I can see firsthand how it does it, but in the meantime here are a few examples of Ryan, Colleen and Frito doing what they do best.
